Lähdön ajoitus ei olisi voinut osua parempaan aikaan, sillä aamutyven väistyy ja tilalle viriää kohtalainen W-tuuli. Saamme hetkessä 6 solmun keskinopeuden. Atlantin kaukaa tulevat 2-3 metrin laajat mainingit muistuttavat meitä siitä, että purjehdimme valtameren reunalla. Matka taittuu ripeästi auringonpaisteessa ja tunnemme purjehtivamme lämpöisillä vesillä.
Niemen takana poukamassa oleva Nazareen kaupunki näkyy vasta viime hetkillä. Edessämme on huikaiseva näky. Kaupunki on rakennettu osittain jyrkän harjanteen päälle useamman sata metriä merenpinnan yläpuolelle. Laajat hiekkarannat maininkeineen ja valkoiset talot luovat vaikutelman valkoisesta kaupungista. Meri on syvää (melkein 100 metriä) lähes rantaan saakka, mikä osaltaan helpottaa sisäänajoa.
Satamamestari Mike ohjaa meidät englantilaisen veneen viereen kylkikiinnitykseen. Englantilaiset ottavat meidät vastaan ystävällisesti. Olemme todella suojaisessa satamassa, joka on suuri kalasatama ja samalla myös hyvin toimiva telakka palveluineen. Tämä paikka voisi sopia hyvin veneen pitkäaikaisempaankin säilytykseen.
Viihdymme hyvin Nazaressa.Paikka on persoonallinen ja tavattoman kaunis. Pyörät ovat hyvä kulkuväline sataman ja kaupungin välillä. Nousemme yläkaupunkiin junalla jyrkkää raidetta pitkin. Täältä meille avautuu ennen näkemätön maisema kaupungin yli merelle.
Englantilaiset naapurimme Sue ja Nigel kutsuvat meidät vierailulle veneeseensä. Ilta sujuu leppoisissa tunnelmissa kuulumisia vaihtaen. White-saarella asuva pariskunta kutsuu meidät Cowesiin, kun palaamme takaisin vuoden kuluttua.
Seuraavana iltapäivänä päätämme lähteä ja suuntaamme keulan runsaan 20 mailin päässä olevalle Ilha da Berlengan saarelle, jonka eteläpuolella on suojaisa ankkuripaikka.
The timing for departure could not be better and the calm weather turned out to be moderate westerly breeze just when we came out to the sea. The far coming 2-3 metres high Atlantic swell reminded us that we are sailing on the edge of an ocean. This leg is again sailing with full sails in the sun and perfect conditions and getting 6 knots speed on an average does not make any difficulties. We really feel that we have arrived in warm waters.
Behind the peninsula we finally see the town of Nazare. We can admire a magnificent view. Part of the town is situated some hundred meters above the sea level. The town is at the edge of the sea and long beaches and white houses make an impression of a white town. The sea is nearly 100 meters deep to the very end when approaching the harbour which also makes it easier to crawl in the well sheltered marina. Mike the harbour master is waiting us and shows the berth by the side of an english sailing boat. The english couple is giving hands and helping us mooring. We are as mentioned earlier in a very good sheltered harbour run by Mike and his wife. There are all the facilities needed and the atmosphere is exellent. The harbour works also as a fishing harbour which makes the seagulls also wander there. On the other hand the fishermen also make part of the harbours nice image. It is worth mentioning that in Nazare harbour there are also good facilities for leaving boat for long term and winterizing as well. The staff is professional and travel lift quarantees that your property really finds it place on the hard.
The bike is good device for moving from harbour to the town. To the " high town " we were lifted by a train. Here from an unexceptional scenery over the town and sea is in front of our eyes.
In the evening we are invited by Nigel and Sue to the english boat by side of ours and we have nice time together. The english couple invites us to visit Cowes when we are returning from our trip during summer 2011.
Next afternoon we are heading to the island of Berlenga some 20 miles SW of Nazare. There we are supposed to find good shelter from prevailing winds on the south side the island.
