Helpottunein mielin nostamme ankkurin ja suuntaamme kohti Gran Canarian eteläosia. Aurinkopanelin asennus on sitonut meidät paikalleen moneksi päiväksi emmekä ole päässeet tutustumaan Las Palmasiin haluamallamme tavalla. Redillä olo on vaikeuttanut myös liikkumistamme.
Matkalla otamme yhteyttä useampaan marinaan ja saamme kuulla niiden olevan täpötäynnä. Puerto Mogan näyttää kuitenkin vihreää valoa ja saamme paikan ensimmäiseksi yöksi satamatoimiston kupeesta.
Seuraava päivä vietetään redillä uinnista ja auringosta nauttien. Toisen yön jälkeen pääsemme laituripaikalle, missä saamme olla kaksi yötä. Seuraavat kaksi yötä vietämme taas ankkurissa.
Veneen bunkrausta (ruuan ym. tavaran lastaaminen veneeseen) varten pääsemme satamaan ja saamme pysyvän paikan siihen saakka, kun lähdemme eteenpäin. Meillä on nyt ruokaa ja juomaa ainakin kuukaudeksi.
Täällä puhdistamme myös vesitankit.
Mogan on meille kaikella tavalla mieleinen paikka ja ehkä paras satama, missä olemme tähän mennessä vierailleet.
Sopivan pieni, viehättävä, lyhyet etäisyydet kauppoihin, ystävällinen ilmapiiri, upeat maisemat ... mitä meiltä vielä puuttuu!
Täällä tapaamme Marja-Liisan ja Orvon, jotka tapasimme kaksi vuotta sitten Suomessa Merikarhusaaressa. Vietämme miellyttävän hetken Canacessa vaihtaen kokemuksia purjehtimisesta näille vesille. Tapaamme myös Ruudin ja muita kokeneita pitkänmatkanpurjehtijoita, jotka antavat evästystä matkallemme.
Ruotsalaispariskunta Karin ja Leif ottaa kontaktia meihin ja haluaa tietää, millaista purjehtiminen Suomesta tänne on ollut. Uskomme, että he saavat vahvistusta omalle hankkeelleen tehdä vastaavanlainen purjehdus ensi vuonna. Håll tummarna!
We are reliefed when lifting the anchor in Las Palmas. We have spent a lot of time in Canace because of the installation of our solarpanel. Due to the fact that we are in anchor ( normally the most enjoyable way of staying somewhere ) we do not have good opportunity to make more acquitance with Las Palmas itself. Actually normal sailors life when affairs concerning boat etc. are number one anyway.
We reach easily by sail the southern coast of Gran Canaria and start contacting the few marinas. The answer in no in most marinas but Puerto de Mogan gives hope. ( Puerto Mogan had been our favourite but just in dreams because we were absolutely sure that there we would not get a berth.) We take contact to the marina office and are told that we are able to stay the first night by the tower where the harbour office lies. Good start anyway and next day we lie in anchor out of the marina and enjoy of swimming in crystal bright very warm water. What a wonderful and relaxing day. We got good relations with the marina office and are soon shown a berth for 2 days. This is heaven. Harbour with all facilities and a small marina surrounded by pittoresgue buildings. This is also a very popular touristigue place with tens of restaurants and small shops by the sea side. For sure fine hotels are near by. Still the life in marina is not disturbed by the lively touristigue side of Puerto de Mogan. This marina is perhaps the best we have so far visited.
Here we meet Ruud and some other very experienced offshore sailors with several ocean passages behind. We have with them interesting talk and get good information for our own " project ".
We meet in marina finnish sailors Marja-Liisa and Orvo whom we met 2 years ago in finish archipelago in an island belonging to the finnish association Merikarhut. We have a pleasant meeting with them in Canace.
We meet also Karin and Leif from Sweden who take contact and are interested to hear our experiences concerning our sailing from Finland to Canary Islands. Karin and Leif plan to do a similar one year sailing starting next summer.
In Puerto de Mogan we fill our water tanks after having cleaned them. We do the shopping for the " crossing " because the shops are around the corner and the prices are as well fair. It takes time to find a place for food etc. because we now have in Canace all necessary ( at least we think so ) for being able to stay on board one month if necessary. Fortunately our boat is very roomy because of long keel and large bilge.
