Köydet irtoavat iltapäivällä ja jätämme Casablancan pölyisen sataman. Edessämme aukeaa rauhallisesti keinahteleva meri. Matkaa seuraavaan päämääräämme Essaouiraan on n. 180 mailia. Alun heikohko tuuli käytetään hyväksi genaakkerin avustuksella ja tuulen voimistuttua purjehdimme kahdella keulapurjeella ja mesaanilla tuuliperäsimen ohjatessa. Vietämme merellä kaksi yötä ja näemme kolme upeaa auringonlaskua. Ankkuroimme veneen torstaina klo 21 Essaouiran edessä olevalle lahdelle. Sataman edusta on täynnä edestakaisin kurvailevia kalastusaluksia ja suuret lokkiparvet tuovat mieleen Hitchcocin elokuvan Linnut.
Aamulla siirrymme "marinan" puolelle, joka osoittautuukin tavalliseksi kalasatamaksi. Kiinnittäydymme kahden muun purjeveneen lailla kylkikiinnitykseen. Asiointi kolmen eri viranomaisen luona sujuu nopeasti. Pian olemmekin valmiina katsastamaan eksoottiselta näyttävän pikkukaupungin.
Satama on kaupungin polttopiste, minkä ympärillä elämä pyörii. Katselemme kalastajien työskentelyä ja ihmettelemme meren antimia. Mikä paratiisi kissalle tai lokille.
Kävelemme kohti medinaa, kaupungin keskustaa. Matkalla juomme tuoremehut, käymme peseytymässä hammamissa, kuljeskelemme basaarikujilla ja istahdamme lopulta kahvilaaan katselemaan elämänmenoa ja ihmisiä. Ihmiskirjoa laidasta laitaan. Paikka on ilmeisen suosittu myös turistikohteena.
Istumme iltaa Canacessa ruotsalaisten henrikin, Callen ja Kerstinin kanssa. Porukka on matkalla maailman ympäri 28-jalkaiselle Birka-nimisellä Laurin-kosterilla. Mukava ilta miellyttävien nuorten seurassa.
"Syrjähyppy" Afrikkaan on ollut meille onnenpotku. Silmämme ovat avautuneet uusille, ennennäkemättömille elämyksille. Marokosta jää hyvät muistot. Tänne voimme vielä palata!
Tänään iltapäivällä lähdemme kohti n. 250 mailin päässä olevaa Lanzarotea. Tuuliennuste lupaa meille myötäisiä, mutta voimakkaita tuulia.
We loosen again the ropes and leave the dusty harbour of Casablanca. The quietly mowing sea is awaiting us and this time we are supposed to get fair open winds. The aim is to sail to Essaouira some 180 miles SW from Casablanca.
The week wind we utilize by lifting our genaker and can now make some 3-4 knots. Later we get some more wind and are now sailing with 2 headsails and the mizzen. Our Aries wind vane is keeping course untouchably and we can live " normarly ". We are glad to see 3 beautiful sunset and after the third one we arrive to Essaouira. We reach the safe bay and drop the anchor. We are in the middle of several fishing ships moving to different directions and having hundreds of seagulls flying around them. The atmosphere is like in the Hitchcock`s film " The Birds ".
Next morning we move to the " marina " which is actually a crowded fishing port. There are 3 other sailing boats aside of each others and we find our place among them.
Taking care of normal paper routine means visiting the Port Control, Police and the Harbourmaster and this is done in half an hour. Now we are ready to explore the again very interesting and exiting small town of Essaouira. Harbour is the essential corner of Essaouira and we are astonishing of the amount of also still alive " sea food " which can be seen all over. What a paradise for seagulls and cats as well.
We drink a just made juice, visit the bazars and Hammam and sit in a cafe by just looking around people of various kind we see around us.
Essaouira with its fine beaches as well seems to be very popular and lots of tourists can be seen in town.
Our unplanned step to Africa and Morocco has been a great success. Our eyes have been opened for new experiences. We get good memories from Morocco and are ready to arrive here again one day.
We have pleasure to meet the crew of a swedish sailing boat ( Laurin koster 28, S/Y Birka ) and are having some wine together in Canace. Henrik, Calle and Kerstin are on their way to sail around the world.
Now on Saturday the 23th of october we start sailing to Lanzarote. The weather forecast is to give us open and pretty strong winds so we hope to get a fast sail. The next leg is around some 250 miles.
