Lähdön kynnyksellä

Juhlistamme Suomen itsenäisyyspäivää päivällisellä tutussa ravintolassa. Suomen lippu liehuu meillä joka päivä, mutta itsenäisyyspäivänä sillä on erityisen suuri merkitys meille ehkä osittain siksi, että olemme kaukana Suomesta.
Voimakkaan S/SW-tuulen jälkeen sää on hieman seesteisempi ja tuuli kevyempää. Tuulen suunta pysynee SW vielä useana päivänä, eikä tyypillisestä N/NE-tuulesta ole tietoakaan. Olemme kuitenkin lähtövalmiina aloittamaan 3-4 viikon Atlantin ylityksen, kapteenin kolmannen, messitytön ensimmäisen. Lähtöhetkeä on vaikea ennustaa, sillä nämä tuulet vievät meidät pikemminkin Afrikkaan kuin Karibialle. Lähtöpäätös tehdäänkin omien tuntemusten mukaan kuitenkin sääkarttaa seuraten. Tässä korostuukin meidän itsenäisyytemme päätöksen tekoon.
Huomenaamuna, lauantaina 11.12 purjeet nostetaan ja suunnataan keula kohti ulappaa ja Uutta maailmaa.

We celebrate the day of Independence by having dinner in a small restaurant. We have our finnish flag up every day but on the 6 th of december our flag is specially significant for us because we are far from Finland. After the dominating often strong S-SW wind the weather stabilizes. Still we have some showers every now and then. The temperature is around 23 C still and we swim daily in the sea. We cannot blame the climate here. The wind is to be in S-SW several days and there is no sign of the prevailing N-NE winds. We are ready to start our 3-4 weeks Atlantic crossing which is the first to Hanna and the third to captain. The moment for departure is near and we want to choose the day. In this respect we are independent. Leaving harbour just now would take us more likely to Africa than to the Caribbean.
