Kello herättää meidät viideltä, sillä tänään on tarkoitus siirtyä runsaan 50 mailin päässä sijaitsevaan Sinesiin. Varhaisen lähtömme syy on hyvien ystäviemme tapaaminen Sinesissä. Poikkeuksellisesti puhaltava heikko vastatuuli saa meidät käynnistämään moottorin. Taitamme taivalta Sinesiin saakka moottorilla ajaen. Pitkään näkymättömissä olleet delfiinit palaavat pitkästä aikaa tervehtimään meitä.
Saavumme Sinesin pikkuiseen satamaan, mikä sijaitsee jälleen kerran hienon hiekkarannan vieressä. Olemme perillä ennen Piccistä ja Pekkaa, jotka saapuvat bussilla Lagosista.
Nostamme maljat jälleennäkemisen ilosta ja menemme illalliselle ravintolaan, josta aukeaa upea näkymä Sinesin lahdelle.
Köydet irtoavat jo aamuvarhaisella, kun aloitamme 75 mailin matkan kohti Lagosia. Parin tunnin koneella-ajo riittää meille ja pian nostamme genaakkerin tuulen voimistuttua. Matka taittuu ja nopeus kasvaa tuulen myötä. Purjehdimme parhaimmillamme 7-8 solmun nopeudella kohti Cabo de Sao Vicenteä, joka on Euroopan lounaisin kärki.
Tällä osuudella kohtaamme suuren delfiiniparven, joka viihtyy pitkään seurassamme. Saamme ihailla niiden sukeltelua ja taidokkaita hyppyjä veneemme ympärillä.
Genaakkeri on laskettava kiertäessämme Cabo de Sao Vicenteä, sillä kurssi kääntyy 90 astetta. Edelleen voimistuva tuuli on myös hyvä syy laskea purje. Nostamme genaakkerin tilalle genoan. Mesaani ja keulapurje pitävät vauhtimme yhä 7-8 solmussa. Vauhti tuntuu vielä kovemmalta pimeässä kuun valaistessa heikosti. Ajamme Lagosin odotuslaituriin pimeän jo laskeuduttua. Takanamme on monipuolinen ja vauhdikas purjehduspäivä täynnä aurinkoa ja unohtumattomia hetkiä.
We are early up this morning because the intention is to sail to Sines some 50 mles south of Cascais. Meeting good friends in Sines and sail with them further to Lagos is the reason for going to Sines. In these waters exceptional S-SW wind which is also pretty week make us to start the engine. 9 hours later we arrive in Sines after monotonous motoring. The thing to mention concerning this leg is the numerous dolphins which again found us after several weeks. We are in Sines fine harbour before our friends Pekka and Piccis who are arriving to Sines from Lagos by bus. It is time to have a drink after having not seen each others for a long time. In the evening we look around the small town and also find a nice restaurant by the seaside with magnificent scenery over the bay of Sines.
Early next morning we crawl out from Sines harbour and because of 75 miles distance to Lagos and lack of wind we start the engine. Fortunately the wind is around the corner and this time the regular NW-N wind gives us hope. Very soon we lift the genaker and life starts smiling again. We approach the " Cape " ( Cabo de Sao Vicente) with 7-8 knots speed and are sailing all fascinated. During our trip to Lagos we get friends. Tens and tens of dolphins approach again and this time stay with us long time. The dolphins are diving under our boat and jumping from water. We have a fantastic show just in front of our eyes and we really feel that the dolphins are communicating with us.
After rounding the " Cape " we have to take the genaker down because the course changes some 90 degrees to east. The stronger gusts than earlier give us no choice either and we feel reliefed when the genaker is on the deck again in one piece. Still with genoa and the mizzen we can keep the same 7-8 knots speed. The last approximately 20 miles from the " Cape " to Lagos is exciting and fascinating sailing in dark although we get some light from the moon and stars.
We enter the waiting pontoon of Lagos marina and the unforgettable sailing day is behind.
